Regionsbeschreibung

Das Kleinwalsertal ist ein hochgelegenes Kerbtal im Nordosten Vorarlbergs. Die Region weist eine Moorfläche von ca. 200 ha auf und ist reich an Mooren und Moorkomplexen verschiedener hydrologischer und stofflicher Ausprägung

Beeinträchtigungen und Probleme

  1. Entwässerung: für u. a. die Befahrbarkeit der bewirtschafteten (überwiegend) Hangmoore
  2. Randeffekte: seitlicher Nährstoffeintrag bzw. Verkleinerung des hydrologischen Einzugsgebietes durch Infrastruktur
  3. Überweidung: teilweise (oft an Engstellen) sind die beweideten Moore der Hochlagen stark zertreten
  4. Nutzungsaufgabe: sekundäre Moorstandorte werden nicht mehr genutzt und bewalden sich im Zuge der Sukzession

Special features of the moor

The Kleinwalsertal is a high-altitude V-shaped valley in north-eastern Vorarlberg. The region has a total peatland area of approximately 200 hectares and is rich in bogs and fens of varying hydrological and material characteristics.

Threats and pressures

  1. Drainage: to ensure accessibility to the managed peatlands
  2. Edge effects: lateral nutrient input or reduction of the hydrological catchment area due to infrastructure
  3. Overgrazing: in some places (often at bottlenecks), the grazed high-altitude peatlands are heavily trampled
  4. Abandonment of use: secondary peatlands are no longer used and are becoming overgrown with trees as part of the succession process
