With the Moss Flora of Austria, a new reference work is now available that is equally significant for peatland research and nature conservation. One of the authors is Christian Schröck, scientific director of LIFE AMooRe. A good opportunity to explain why mosses are indispensable to our work.
In the Citizen Science project “Peatland Detectives”, young people are turned into real researchers in the middle of Vorarlberg’s most valuable habitats – the peatlands. More than 50 students from five schools in Vorarlberg were actively involved as „Peatland Detectives” again this year. The project not only promotes scientific skills, but also experience of nature and awareness of nature conservation.
Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel (CAU) is a scientific partner institution of LIFE AMooRe. Since 2024, a team consisting of three scientists and two technicians has been investigating the hydrology and soils of the project areas.
On November 20, 2024, the kick-off event for the LIFE AMooRe project, which started in January, was celebrated with broad participation in the Marble Hall of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BML).
During his stay in Vorarlberg, Federal President Van der Bellen was informed about the AMooRe (Austrian Moor Restoration) project and visited Vorarlberg’s largest peatland area, the Rhine delta.
On the occasion of this year’s World Wetlands Day, the LIFE AMooRe project was officially launched at a press conference on 1 February 2024 with Federal Minister Gewessler, Director-General Mörth and the provincial councillors Zadra (Vorarlberg), Lackner (Styria) and Rosenkranz (Lower Austria).
